Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi responded to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) defeat in the Legislative Assembly elections held in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. PM Modi also congratulated the Congress party for the latter’s win in the elections and humbly asked the BJP leaders in the States to accept the people’s choice.

“We accept the people’s mandate with humility. I thank the people of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan for giving us the opportunity to serve these states. The BJP Governments in these states worked tirelessly for the welfare of the people,” tweeted Mr. Modi. Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh were BJP’s most heartheld states.

In Madhya Pradesh, the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had a very close competition, where both received 114 and 104 seats respectively, but none of them were able to secure the majority mark of 116 seats. The BJP was in an extremely tough spot after scoring only 1 seat in Telangana and Mizoram each.

Furthermore, PM Modi congratulated the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) upon their victory in Telangana and the Mizo National Front (MNF) for their win in Mizoram. He tweeted, “Congratulations to the Congress for their victories. Congratulations to KCR Garu for the thumping win in Telangana and to the Mizo National Front (MNF) for their impressive victory in Mizoram.”  The TRS was BJP’s biggest competitor in the Telangana Assembly elections of 2018. The MNF dethroned the Congress party from power and got a hold of the Mizoram Legislative Assembly after 10 years.

In a series of tweets, Mr. Modi said, “Victory and defeat are an integral part of life.” This was followed by Mr. Modi saying, “Today’s results will further our resolve to serve people and work even harder for the development of India,” asking the BJP members and leaders to see the silver lining of the poor performance of the Party.

After the BJP’s defeat in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, political experts doubt the Party will win the Lok Sabha elections of 2019.
