Nation Remembers Mahatma Gandhi On His 67th Death Anniversary

New Delhi: The nation remembers the great leader of India, Mahatma Gandhi on Saturday on the occasion of his death anniversary. On the 67th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Indian is re-collecting the moments, values, ideals and speeches of the Mahatma, who played a prominent role in India’s freedom movement. The ‘Father of Nation’ was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on 30 January 1948 in Delhi.

On January 30, 1948, Gandhi was shot by the assassin, Nathuram Godse at 5.17 pm when Gandhiji was walking to a platform from which he was to address a prayer meeting. The assassin fired three bullets into his body. Before slumping on the ground, the Gandhiji gasped “He Ram” and then breathed his last. Nathuram Godse, who was a Hindu nationalist, held the leader guilty of favouring Pakistan and strongly opposed the doctrine of nonviolence.

Fondly referred as ‘Bapu’, Gandhiji was preeminent personality of the country, who drove the National movement with an incredible spirit and courage. With the support of many other leaders and civilians, he led many national movements against the British and gifted freedom to the unborn generations of the nation. He employed non-violence and led India to the Independence.
