Ranjan Gogoi, the Chief Justice of India (CJI,) on the 16th of September, said he would visit Jammu and Kashmir himself to check the allegations filed regarding Article 370.

On the 28th of August, the SC heard the petitions filed by advocates, non governmental organisations (NGO,) media representatives and others.

On the 17th of September, the Supreme Court (SC) further reviewed approximately 14 petitions filed against the revocation of Article 370, the curfew in Jammu and Kashmir and other related matters.

While reviewing one of the petitions filed by Enakshi Ganguly, a child rights activist, Ranjan Gogoi said, “Why is it difficult to go to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court? Is anyone coming in the way? We want to know from the Chief Justice (High Court.) If required, I will go to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.”

The statement of Mr. Gogoi came after Ms. Ganguly said it is difficult to go to the Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

Enakshi Ganguly filed a petition, stating the restrictions in Jammu and Kashmir are severely affecting children belonging to the age group 6 to 18.  Ganguly demanded measures be taken regarding the matter.

When Mr. Gogoi asked her why she did not go to the High Court for the same instead of coming to the SC.  To this, she responded, “It is difficult to go to the High Court.”

Mr. Gogoi said, “It’s very, very serious if people are unable to approach the High Court. I will myself visit Srinagar.”

CJI Gogoi asked the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court to submit a report regarding the allegations of Enakshi and the condition of the children in the State due to the restrictions.  He further said once he receives the report from the CJ of the High Court, he will go to the High Court.

The Apex Court also ordered the Government of India to ensure normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir and the Kashmir Valley.  The Supreme Court also ordered the Central Government to ensure the hospitals, schools and offices in the State function normally.
