The Vande Bharat Express, formerly known as Train 18, and the fastest train in India, broke down, on the 16th of February, during its test run.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the 15th of February, inaugurated the Vande Bharat Express, which will initially travel from Delhi to Varanasi.

According to sources, the train broke down after running 200 km from Delhi, near the Tundla Junction in Uttar Pradesh. The railway officials said, the train started making a ‘weird noise’ and soon the brakes jammed.

The loco pilots of the train noticed smoke and smelled a foul odour in the last four coaches of the train. There was also a power cut in all the coaches following which, the engineers reduced the speed to 10 km per hour (kmph.) The passengers, including journalists and railway officials, were shifted to another train and the Vande Bharat Express was brought back to Delhi.

The reason behind the sudden breakdown is uncertain and the officials are likely to send the train to Delhi for maintenance. The officials and engineers are trying to figure out the reason behind the sudden breakdown.

However, today’s run was not a commercial run, but a trial. The train is scheduled to start its commercial run from the 16th of February.

Stay tuned for further updates.
