Victory Of BSP And SP In UP Will Be My Gift Says Mayawati Das

Mayawati Das, the chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP,) on her 63rd birthday, today, addressed the BSP and the Samajwadi Party (SP) workers. During her address, she asked the workers of both the parties to put in their best efforts toward the Uttar Pradesh (UP) elections to ensure the victory of the alliance of the BSP and the SP.

Recently, Mayawati Das and Akhilesh Yadav, the leader of the SP, declared their alliance to fight against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party in the upcoming UP elections. Although the BSP extended its support to the Congress party to help the latter touch the majority mark of 116 seats in Madhya Pradesh elections, 2018, the BSP excluded the Congress party in the grand alliance. This move by the BSP came as a response to the Congress party’s exclusion of the BSP and the SP members in the list of Cabinet Ministers in Madhya Pradesh.

Mayawati said, “This time my birthday is being celebrated at a time when the national election is ahead. In the biggest state, we have announced an alliance with the Samajwadi Party that has robbed the BJP and others of their sleep.” She further added, “UP decides who will come to power in the centre and who will be prime minister. The BSP and SP must fight together, setting aside their differences and ensure the victory of all gathbandhan (alliance) candidates. It will be the biggest gift for me.”

Akhilesh Yadav also expressed his desire to see Mayawati Das as the Prime Minister of India. He said, “UP has given India many prime ministers. You know who I would support. I will be happy if again there is a prime minister from UP.”

Ms. Das, speaking about the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress party, criticised their policies. Targeting the BJP for their statements regarding castes and religion, Ms. Das said, “The BJP’s communal policy has led to discontentment among people. Saffron leaders are dividing Gods along caste lines. The minority community are not allowed to offer Friday prayer. The BJP government has failed to fulfill promises made to the people. The farmers, youths and trades are feeling cheated. These days BJP leaders are busy giving clarifications.”

Going ahead with the criticism, she said, the decision of the Congress party to waive off farm loans is a wrong decision for the farmers, as most of the farmers took the loans from moneylenders and not from banks.

Mayawati Das’s birthday is being celebrated as the ‘Jan Kalyankari Divas’ (public welfare day) by the BSP leaders and workers. As the BSP leader turns 63 today, the BSP workers will cut a 63 kg cake and appeal to the public of Uttar Pradesh to vote for Mayawati Das as the next PM of India.

The BSP and the SP leaders are expected to release the list of the 38 candidates contesting the UP elections, after a meeting between the two parties on the 16th and 17th of January, 2019.
