The members of Bajrang dal and Shiv Sena have last year demanded that the day should be marked as a ‘Black Day’ in his honor. It was on this day that Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev were hanged by the British and hence as a form of tribute to the martyrs should be declared a Black Day.

But the truth is something entirely different according to official records. The records state Bhagat Singh along with Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged in Lahore, Pakistan on 23 March 1931. The punishment for Lahore Conspiracy Case was scheduled for 24 March 1931 but was moved ahead and executed at 7:30 P.M., on the 23rd of March. The fighter was born on 27 September in 1907 at Jaranwala Tehsil, Lyallpur District, Punjab, India. The freedom fighters birthplace is now a part of Pakistan.

Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev Thapar and Shivaram Rajguru were the three martyrs that India can show pride about. And they also became popular as the symbols for revolution and awakening among the youth. There have been social media rumors doing rounds about the martyrs being hanged on February 14 and to observe it as a black day. Spreading such rumors of hatred about the day of love and their martyrdom not only is a mockery of their struggle and death, but also spreading feelings of hatred on the day of Love.

The message being circulated says, “Most of us know February 14 as Valentine’s Day, but in the morning of that day in Lahore, the legendaries (sic) were hanged to their deaths. We only celebrate Valentine’s Day. Let us pass this message to every 1 we know, also..to salute and pay respect to their sacrifice.Let Us Be An Indian First..!!”

To all those who believe such rumors, we request you to not spread venom by alternating the facts about the freedom fighters martyrdom on the day of Love!
