Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, on the 26th of August, announced all educational Institutes and colleges to be shut till the 20th of September.

The decision was taken after the Novel Coronavirus situation worsened in the State.

Ms. Banerjee also announced to continue the lockdown measures in West Bengal till the 20th of September.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the past month after the lockdown was lifted announced to continue partial lockdown.

Initially, it was till the 31st of August, but due to the increasing number of COVID-19 cases, the State Government decided to extend.

Now, the current lockdown measures would be in place in the state till the 20th September.

Complete lockdown to be observed on the 7th, 11th and 12th of September.

However, during the lockdown, the below mentioned activities and services would be functioning:

Health services including the movement of health personnel/patients by public and private transport

Medicine shops and pharmacies

Law and order, courts, correctional services, fire and emergency services

Electricity, water and conservancy services

Continuous process industries and Industries with in-house workers

Agriculture operations; Tea Garden operations in the field

Intrastate and interstate movement of goods

E-Commerce; Capital and debt market services as notified by SEBI

The State Government also issued a few helpline numbers–1800313444222, 033 23412600; for telemedicine–033 23576001; and 033 40902929 for ambulance.

West Bengal has a total of 1,44,801 cases of the Novel Coronavirus, of which 27,349 are active cases 1,14,543 are recovered/discharged cases and 2,909 deceased.
