The Winter Session of the Parliament is all set to begin on the 18th of November.  All the parties from across India and their Members of Parliament (MPs) are expected to raise several issues during the Session.

While the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to table Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, the Indian National Congress (INC) would raise issues like economic slowdown, job crisis and the Jammu and Kashmir curfew.

This is the second Parliament session after the recent 2019 Lok Sabha elections.  During this session, the BJP led Central Government is expected to pass several bills, table major issues and discuss new policies.

On the 17th of November, Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted a meeting with the major leaders of all parties.  The meeting was held in Delhi and the leaders presented their opinions and suggestions for the Parliament session.

Prahlad Joshi, the Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs of India, said approximately 27 bills would be discussed during the Winter Session.

Some important pending legislation expected to be passed during the Winter Session of the Parliament are:

1) The National Institute of Design (Amendment) Bill, 2019

2) The Chit Funds (Amendment) Bill, 2019

3) The Surrogacy (Regulation) Bill, 2019

4) The Inter State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 2019

5) The Dam Safety Bill, 2019

6) The Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Bill, 2019

7) The Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill, 2019

8) The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Amendment) Bill, 2019

9) The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2019.

Some new bills which would be introduced and passed are:

1) The Pesticides Management Bill, 2019

2) The Insolvency & Bankruptcy (Second) Amendment Bill, 2019

3) The International Financial Services Centres Authority Bill, 2019

4) The Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Bill, 2019

5) The Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019

6) The Personal Data Protection Bill, 2019

7) The Arms Act (Amendment) Bill, 2019

During today’s session, the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2019, would be tabled and the INC, along with the Shiv Sena and other opposition parties, would try to raise objections against the Bill.

The Winter Session is scheduled to begin at 11:00 A.M., on the 18th of November and would continue till the 13th of December.
