Saturday night, a truck headed towards Hyderabad from Vijayawada was seized by the Police. The truck disguised as a vegetable carrier had loads of marijuana hidden underneath. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence’s (DRI) detectives and Hyderabad Police arrested the truck driver in Vijayawada. The total amount of Marijuana seized was 1,344 kg, which is one of the biggest seiziures in the last few months.
A senior DRI official said, “We got a tip about a consignment of ganja headed to Hyderabad. The truck was intercepted in Vijayawada, and the driver, T. Srinivas Rao, a resident of Serigalapally near Palakollu, was arrested. The driver said he did not know who was behind the ganja racket.” This is second biggest catch after a Sahmshabad seize where 800 kilos was seized by the Hyderabad Police.
The officer said, “The driver said he was supposed to drive the truck from Visakha Agency area to Vijayawada and from there another driver was to take over and head to Hyderabad. He did not have a mobile phone. He showed us the place where his reliever was to take over. Perhaps the other driver heard about the seizure. He did not report at the designated place when we went there.”
The driver, from Andhra Pradesh, admitted his crime and was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances Act.
