On the 1st of July, Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis e Ittehadul (AIMIM) conducted a party meeting with the leaders of the AIMIM. The meeting was scheduled to discuss the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, in which the AIMIM is contesting.

According to sources, the Party President reviewed the political development in Uttar Pradesh and discussed the future course of action with the State leaders. He also analyzed the possible alliances between major political parties in Uttar Pradesh.

Many party leaders including, the former mayor of Hyderabad Majid Hussain, the U.P., the Organizing Secretary Mohammed Iqbal and the in charge of Lakhimpur and Sitapur Mohammed Osman Siddiqui attended the meeting. The Party is going to contest in 100 Muslim majority seats in Uttar Pradesh.

As of now, no seat sharing formula has been finalised yet. Earlier, AIMIM had joined the Bhagidari Sankalp Morcha, a political front in U.P.. The front has nine parties including Om Prakash Rajbhar’s Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party. Mr. Rajbhar, a leader of the AIMIM said, “There have been no talks of seat sharing with the AIMIM. The ‘Bhagidari Morcha’ would hold discussions on it in the days to come after assessing their preparedness to take on the BJP in the UP assembly polls.”

This is not the first time the AIMIM is contesting the U.P., Assembly elections. In 2017 also, the Party contested for 38 Assembly seats. However, the Party failed to secure even a single seat in the past Assembly elections with 0.02 % votes.

Meanwhile, in the 2020 Uttar Pradesh Panchayat Polls, the AIMIM performed well, especially in Azamgarh and Prayagraj constituencies.

In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly Polls, the AIMIM is going to contest against the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Stay tuned for further updates.
