The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders, on the 9th of September, protested against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) outside the Naspur Tahsildar office in Mancherial district, Telangana.

The BJP leaders staged a dharna with a demand for celebrating the Telangana Liberation Day officially on the 17th of September.  They even sent a representation to Shyamala Devi, the special officer of Mancherial, regarding the same.

Pittala Ravi, the Mandal President of the BJP, warned about an agitation against the TRS if they do not celebrate the Telangana Liberation Day.  He further said India got freedom in 1947, but Telangana got its freedom from the Nizams’ rule in 1948.

BJP leaders, Mandal secretaries Mashineni Satish and Satram Rameh, Erla Sadanandam, Samraj Ramesh, Syd Pasha, Gaddam Sreenu, Mahesh, Korapu Mahendar, Bussarapu Tirupathi and others participated in the protest.

The Telangana Liberation Day is significant as Hyderabad got its freedom from the Nizams’ rule and merged with the Union of India on this day.

A few regions of Maharashtra and Karnataka, which were ruled by the Nizams, were also merged with the respective states on the 17th of September 1948.

While Maharashtra and Karnataka celebrate the Liberation Day officially, the TRS led Telangana Government does not celebrate the occasion.

According to sources, the celebration may disturb the harmony in Hyderabad and Telangana as the day has historical importance.  While many believe it was a day of freedom from the Nizams, others believe it was one of the darkest days in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Though the K. Chandrashekar Rao led TRS is against the official celebration of the Telangana Liberation Day, the BJP stages protests and asks the TRS Government to celebrate the day every year.

Kishan Reddy, a leader of the BJP in Telangana, said, “In Telangana, the BJP has been demanding that the Liberation Day be officially celebrated on September 17. …but the previous governments (in united Andhra Pradesh) and now the TRS government, out of fear of AIMIM, did not have officially celebrating Hyderabad Liberation Day.”

However, the TRS did not respond to the demands yet.

Stay tuned for further updates.
