Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Telangana Unit, has been arrested by the State Police.

On the 2nd of November, the Telangana Police arrested the Karimnagar Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, while he was on his way to the Munugode Assembly Constituency.  At midnight on the 2nd of November, the Police stopped Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar and shifted him to Abdullapurmet Police Station.

According to sources, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar called for a protest on the 3rd of November, Thursday, in the Munugode constituency.  The protest was against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) for alleged violations in the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) imposed by the Election Commission of India (ECI) in Munugode.  Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar and BJP leaders also demanded non locals and TRS leaders from outside Telangana to return and not campaign in Munugode. The BJP leader Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar also contended why the police and the Election Commission (EC) officials are permitting TRS leaders who are not voters of Munugode to stay back, especially when they are influencing the voters in villages.  In regard to this, Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar was on his way to Munugode, when he was stopped at the Vijayawada Highway.

However, to prevent any untoward incident, the State Police stopped the BJP leader and shifted him to the police station.

Moreover, it is to be noted that the Munugode Assembly constituency is conducting the by election on the 3rd of November.  The polling started at 7:00 A.M., and would continue till 6:00 P.M., with the participation of approximately 2.41 lakh voters.

Meanwhile, criticising the Telangana Police, the BJP activists demanded the release of Mr. Bandi Sanjay Kumar, who is currently under police custody.
