Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, launched the awaited Kanti Velugu Scheme in the Telangana State today, the 18th of January, Wednesday.

Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, would launch the scheme during a public meeting in Khammam.   In this regard, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Government officials and cadres made elaborate arrangements for the visit.  The Khammam Police and other BRS officials also ensured the security of the Chief Minister in the district.  The event would be a grand success with the participation of political leaders from different regions of India as guests.  Notably, Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, Mr. Akhilesh Yadav, the President of the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh, Mr. M.K. Stalin, the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and other leaders attended the launch of the Kanti Velugu Scheme.  For the mega rally, the BRS Government has organised a huge fest.

The grand Khammam meeting is also said to be an effort of the BRS Government to gear up for the 2023 Telangana Assembly elections in the State.

This would be the second time the Kanti Velugu scheme would be in action in the Telugu State of Telangana.  Under the scheme, the State Government would provide free treatment and checkups for those suffering from any eye related issues.  As a part of the scheme, the Government would distribute medicines along with spectacles to those suffering from vision related problems.

The scheme was first introduced in 2018 by Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao in Malkapur and Medak districts.  However, the scheme was dropped initially after 5 months with an investment of Rs. 106 crores.

Now, once again, the BRS Government announced the implementation of the Kanti Velugu programme, starting from today, the 18th of January 2023.   In this second phase of the launch, the BRS Government would cover 1.5 crore individuals and distribute a staggering 55 lakh spectacles to the needy patients.  Out of the 55 lakh eyeglasses, a total of 30 lakh would be reading glasses while the rest of the 25 lakh would be prescription glasses, which will be meant specifically to correct vision problems and for full time users.

Furthermore, this unique eye care initiative would be held over a period of 100 days with an estimated cost of nearly Rs. 200 crores, with a staff of 1,500 doctors and nurses.
