The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) staged a “rasta roko” dharna at the Manugur Cross Roads in Burgampahad Mandal, Telangana.
The protest carried out on the 17th of August, Wednesday, was in view of the recent restrictions imposed by the City Police. Notably, the CLP was heading toward the Dummagudem project on the 16th of August, Tuesday. The delegation was on its way to the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) to assess the damage caused by the recent floods which affected Telangana. However, the police stopped the delegation and stopped them from visiting the irrigation project, following which the CLP staged a “rasta roko” dharna.
They also protested against the illegal detention of the Indian National Congress (INC) leaders. The detained members of the CLP included leaders like Mr. Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) Mr. D. Sridhar Babu, Mr. T. Jeevan Reddy, Mr. Seetakka, the former union minister Mr. Balaram Naik and the kisan cell state president Mr. Anvesh Reddy.
After the arrest of the INC leaders, the workers and leaders of the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) lashed out at the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government. The INC took a dig at Mr. K.Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, over the arrest and claimed that the State Government failed to rescue people in flood hit areas.
Meanwhile, the State of Telangana is witnessing heavy to moderate rainfall, causing trouble to the people of Telangana, especially those in coastal and low lying regions.
