COVID- 19 -Telangana CS Somesh Kumar Holds Press Conference, Briefs About Lockdown

Somesh Kumar, the Chief Secretary of Telangana, on the 23rd of March, conducted a press conference and briefed about the Statewide lockdown in the wake of the Novel Coronavirus.

Mr. Kumar announced the Statewide lockdown under the Epidemic Act, 1897 for prevention of the Novel Coronavirus also known as COVID-19  in the State. At the press conference Somesh Kumar along with the Director General of Police (DGP) of Hyderabad Mahender Reddy spoke about the precautions.

Mr. Kumar said lockdown would be implemented till the 31st of March and only emergency services like groceries,  medical and other essentials would be available. While emergency services would be 24×7, shops and groceries would be only available till 6:00 P.M.

Strict actions would be taken against those who raise the prices of essential commodities and those who do black marketing, misusing the situation of the Pandemic crisis.

The National Employment Guarantee Scheme states that a limited number of tasks can be undertaken, but not in groups.

Mr. Rao said, “Some of the interstate boundaries are being closed as part of the lockdown announced by the Chief Minister of the state.”

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) banned all the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) buses, private vehicles, autos and cabs in the State.

People are advised to be indoors if there is not an emergency to go out, especially from 7:00 P.M., to 6:00 A.M.

Inter state borders are also closed for buses, vehicles and others due to the increased number of positive cases of COVID-19.   Till date State reported 33 cases of COVID-19, whereas India reported 415 cases and 8 deaths.

The Civil Aviation Ministry, Railway Ministry and others decided to cease passenger trains and domestic flights to curb the spread and control the situation.
