After days of heavy rainfall in Hyderabad and districts of Telangana, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a rain alert for the State.

On the 23rd of July, the IMD issued an orange alert for Hyderabad and a red alert for other districts, especially low lying areas of Telangana. The alert came a day after the Weather Forecast report of the State predicted heavy rainfall for the next 24-48 hours. This is the second time the IMD issued a rain alert. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on the 16th of July, issued an orange alert and predicted heavy rains till the 19th of July, Sunday.

With this rain like situation in the State, the temperature of the City (Hyderabad) also reduced to 23.6 ° Celsius, from usual 30 ° Celsius, during this time. To control the situation, the Telangana Government directed to lift two gates of Osman Sagar as the water level of the reservoir (1,790 feet) reached 1,784.9 feet.

In regards to the current rainfall situation, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, held a review meeting and directed officials to take preventive measures and control the flood like situation.

Acting upon the instructions of KCR, the officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) shifted people residing in the low lying areas, took help from the City Police for the rescue measures and ensured preventive measures in flood affected districts.

In Telangana, of the 33 districts, 16 witnessed floods and water logged situations. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams also joined hands for the rescue operations.

Meanwhile, this monsoon Telangana received more rain than usual. Overall rainfall recorded in Telangana was 172.8 % rainfall with 30 % more this monsoon.

In June, Telangana recorded 172.8 mm rainfall. In 2019 June, Telangana recorded 129.2 mm rainfall.

During the period of June 1 to July 15, the State received cumulative rainfall of 318.6 mm against normal rainfall of 236.66 mm, 35 % more than usual.
