Due to the imposed lockdown in Telangana, the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) services are likely to be suspended.
The HRML recently changed its train timings and works from 7:00 A.M., to 9:45 A.M.
The new timings and imposed lockdown impacted the running of the trains massively. The HMRL which used to have a footfall of 80,000 to 1,00,000 lakh, now witnesses only 4,000 footfall in a day. Considering the situation, the Hyderabad metros could be suspended until the lockdown ends.
Earlier, during the night curfew in the State, the Hyderabad Metro Rail had curtailed its services. The imposed night curfews and lockdown have resulted in huge losses for the Hyderabad Metro Rail and Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC).
However, the pandemic due to the Wuhan Virus has changed the dynamics of living and made it difficult for public transport to function as it was before. In addition, the imposed curfews, partial lockdown and complete lockdown has made the situation worse for public transportation.
An official announcement regarding the suspension of the HRML services during the lockdown is awaited.
Meanwhile, the Telangana lockdown would continue till the 22nd of May.
