Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS) is planning to boost the accuracy of weather reports, taking recommendations from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Mumbai.
TSDPS has already started identifying the locations and installing the first 115 Automatic Weather Systems (AWS) throughout the State. It has further proposed to make provision for 166 more AWS in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).
IIT Mumbai suggested for the installation of one AWS at every 4 kilometre distance. The AWS will be girded with advanced technology that will allow information about rainfall to be broadcasted at different time intervals by the controlling agency.
The expense of installing an AWS ranges from one lakh to five lakh depending on the quality of the model and the technology used.
According to the GHMC Commissioner B. Janardhan Reddy, the location specific flood forecast will help the government to direct the appropriate authorities to take quick and effective remedial actions.
The TSDPS also plans to install 10 weather display boards at various locations in the city. The boards will notify the commuters about weather information including daily temperature, humidity and rainfall.
The displays will be set up after a consultation with the traffic police. The GHMC Commissioner along with the Traffic Police unit will identify the appropriate locations for installing the display boards.
