On the 28th of June, K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, launched a year long centenary celebration of late P.V.Narasimha Rao, the former Prime Minister of India.

Whatever subject Narasimha Rao was entrusted with, he took bold decisions and introduced reforms. His reforms with regard to land rights, education and economic policies shaped the country’s future. The fruits of the economic reforms introduced by him are being enjoyed by the people now and will continue to be enjoyed by future generations.”

The event would be a tribute to Late Narasimha Rao and highlight his “360 degree personality” during his Prime Minister duration from 1991 to 1996.

P.V. Narasimha Rao was the first non hindi speaking PM of India and 8th Prime Minister.

He was from Telugu state, Andhra Pradesh and was a native of Karimnagar.

Considering the year long celebration worldwide, Chandrashekhar Rao said, “We will keep the celebrations committee open ended so that many more people who have knowledge of Narasimha Rao can join and contribute. We will reprint his books and I am directing the State Sahitya Academy to take up publication of his unpublished works.”

In addition, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) also decided to establish a foundation in Kakatiya University to study the economic reforms implemented by the P.V. Narasimha Rao.

Mr. Chandrashekar Rao further added, five bronze statues of Narasimha Rao will be erected in Karimnagar, Warangal, Vangara, Hyderabad and in Telangana Bhavan in New Delhi.

Later, KCR said after a year, the concluding ceremony on the 28th of June 2021 would be a grand ceremony with at least 1 lakh guests.

KCR said, “We will invite and involve President Ramnath Kovind, the Prime Minister, former President Pranab Mukherjee and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for some of these events.”

KCR remembered the contribution of P.V. Narasimha Rao and said, “As Minister for external affairs he coined the concept “Look to east” drawing the world’s attention towards eastern hemisphere. Such a call explains a lot about the knowledge and boldness of that person.” KCR further added, “He transformed India as an economic power to reckon with only through bold reforms. His nonchalant attitude is because of his steadfastness and non dependence on any political group within the party he belonged to.”

CM KCR, K.T. Rama Rao, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, K. Keshava and other TRS leaders were present at the inauguration event.

Floral tributes were paid and religious prayers were offered to late Narasimha Rao.
