The funeral of P. Vijaya Reddy, the Tehsildar of Abdullapurmet, took place on the 5th of November, at her native place, Kalavalapalli village.
On the 4th of November, a man named Suresh brutally set Vijaya Reddy on fire around 1:30 P.M. The incident took place at Vijaya Reddy’s office in Hayathnagar, Ranga Reddy district, where he came to talk to her. After half an hour, Vijaya Reddy was set ablaze by Suresh.
The shocking incident raised many questions regarding revenue officers’ safety. The Telangana Revenue Employees Service Association (TRESA,) on the 5th of November, asked the revenue officers in the State to boycott their duties for 3 days.
The officers also called for a protest on the 5th of November and demanded justice for Vijaya Reddy.
The officers also demanded severe punishment be given to the culprit for committing such a heinous crime.
M. Mahesh Bhagwat, the Commissioner of Police of Rachakonda, said, “The accused person, Suresh, is in a critical condition and is undergoing treatment at OGH (Osmania General Hospital.) It seems Suresh had a land related issue. We are trying to find out why he resorted to such a barbaric act.”
All the revenue officers also took part in the last rites of Vijaya Reddy in Kalavalapalli, Nalgonda district, Telangana.
Vijaya Reddy became the Mandal Revenue Officer (MRO) in 2009 and was a teacher by profession. She is survived by her husband P. Subhash Reddy and their two children, Sai Chaitanya and Bhuvan Sanket.
