Telangana Conducts Elections For Mayor And Chairpersons Posts

On the 27th of January, the Telangana Government conducted the elections for the posts of Mayor and Chairperson of various municipal corporations and municipalities. 

After a landslide victory of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in the Municipal elections held on the 22nd of January, senior leaders of the TRS discussed the candidates for the posts of Mayor and Chairperson. 

The State Election Commission, on the 25th of January, announced the 27th of January as the day the elections for these 2 posts would be held.

The political parties were also advised to be prepared with the forms for the top urban local bodies’ posts. 

Asaduddin Owaisi, the President of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM,) on the 26th of January, conducted a meeting at the Pragati Bhavan regarding the same. 

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana and K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of the TRS, decided the candidates. 

The lists of candidates selected for the top posts were sent to the districts on the night of the 26th of January. 

While the lists of candidates contesting the Mayor elections in all the 120 municipalities and 9 corporations were sent, the election in Nereducharla was postponed to the 28th of January. 

Meanwhile, the election for the Karimnagar Mayor’s post is scheduled to be held on the 29th of January. 

The elections for the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation were postponed due to some issues and held on the 25th of January, following which the election for the Mayor’s post was also postponed. 

The results of the elections for the Karimnagar Municipal Corporation are scheduled to be announced soon today, on the 27th of January.
