Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy, the Education Minister of Telangana, announced a new hostel at the Nizam College, Hyderabad, Telangana.
On the 15th of November, Tuesday, Ms. P. Sabitha Indra Reddy said, the newly constructed hostel would be dedicated to girls studying for the undergraduate students of the Nizam College. Furthermore, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government would release the money for the construction of the hostel. The decision to allot the hostel to UG girl students was taken in a meeting, held between the Osmania University (OU) Vice Chancellor Prof. D. Ravinder and Nizam College Principal Prof. B. Bhima with Ms. Sabitha Indra Reddy.
The meeting was held after Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister of Telangana, asked the concerned department to address the issues of UG girls students, asking for a hostel at the college. Notably, the UG Girl Students of Nizam College rejected the proposal of 50% accommodation and demanded 100% accommodation of undergraduate girls studying at the college. They even staged a protest and urged the Telangana Government and concerned authorities to look into the matter.
Considering the situation and request of Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the State Education Department, Nizam College administration and OU Administration held a meeting. After the confirmation of the hostel construction, the Telangana Government directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority for the construction and released the funds. This is the first time in the history of Nizam College, that an entire building has been dedicated to undergraduate girl students for accommodation.
After the construction, approximately 200 UG girl students would be given accommodation at the hostel.
