On the 27th of June, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government conducted an all party meeting. 

The meeting all party leaders unanimously decided to provide financial assistance to Dalit beneficiaries in Telangana. K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, announced Rs. 10 lakh financial assistance directly to the bank accounts of Dalit beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Programme. The eligible families selected as beneficiaries from 119 Assembly constituencies would receive the money to make them financially self-sufficient. In total, approximately 11,900 Dalit families would receive Rs. 10 lakhs each.

According to the Telangana Chief Minister’s office (CMO) the financial assistance woupd be released in a phased manner. In the first phase, the assistance would be given to 100 families selected from each of the 119 Assembly Constituencies. For this, the Telangana Government, after the unanimous decision of all parties, announced to release Rs. 1,200 crores under the Chief Minister Empowerment Programme. while, Rs. 1,190 crores would be provided to the beneficiaries, Rs. 20 crores would be spent on maintenance.

The all-party meeting felt that the proposed CM Dalit Empowerment Programme would bring in a qualitative change in the lives of beneficiaries.

During the meeting, held at Pragathi Bhavan, all party representatives finalised the guidelines for the CM Dalit Empowerment Programme with representatives of Dalits. The meeting which ended after 11 hours, on the night of the 27th of June, was attended by several Members of Parliament (MPs,) the Members of thr Legislative Assembly (MLAs,) Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs,) intellectuals, senior leaders from various political and minister of the TRS.

Although the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) boycotted the meeting, the party leader Motkupalli Narsimhalu participated and praised the Telangana CM for his Government’s decisions on Dalit empowerment.

The TRS Government launched the unique programme for the Dalits in the State. The launched programme by the K. Chandrashekar Rao has become a role model for the country.

Speaking on the occasion, CM KCR said, “It is a blot on Indian society that Dalits are subjected to social and economic discrimination. This is deeply bothering all of us. The Telangana State government has introduced several schemes and programmes for the development and welfare of Dalits. It has attained qualitative change in agriculture and education sectors. But yet with an aim to set the Dalit families which are under the poverty line move towards development, CM Dalit Empowerment Programme is being introduced at a cost of Rs. 1,200 crores (sic.)” He further said, “We are providing Rs. 1,200 crores in the current budget for the Dalit empowerment scheme with a special objective. The Government is ready to give another Rs. 300 crores if needed. This is in addition to the Dalit sub-plan.”

The CM said it is the responsibility of the State Government to move the society forward. He said from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, Dalits are socially and economically exploited classes.

Briefly speaking about the new Dalit empowerment programme, the TRS President said, “The State Government is ready to implement phased wise action plan to remove social and economic problems of Dalits.” In addition, he urged the all-party meeting to give suggestions to make Dalits move forward in the society with confidence they too can progress, to make transparent policies for the empowerment of Dalits,

The CM said in the urban areas, Dalit youth explore possibilities in industrial and technological sectors. If one listens to Goreti Venkanna’s song Galli Chinnadi, one would find solutions for Dalit issues. He said solutions should be found separately for the problems of Dalits living in rural and urban areas. He said the Government aimed to implement Dalit Empowerment Programme strictly for the progress of Dalits. He clarified that the funds allocated for the Dalit Empowerment Programme are over and above the funds allocated for the SC Sub Plan.
