The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) passed an ordinance to make special provisions in payments during the emergency situation.

The State government promulgated the Telangana Disaster and Public Health Emergency (Special Provisions) Ordinance 2020, which would empower the TRS Government in payment of salaries, pensions and other dues in the event of disaster and public health emergency in the State.

The K. Chandrashekar Rao led State Government passed the ordinance in the wake of the pandemic crisis due to the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 infection in the State.

With this ordinance, the State Government could cut payments in part, due and payable to any person or institution in monthly pay, pension or remuneration to the employee, pensioner or other persons.

The total monthly payment during such period would not exceed more than 50% and would be applicable to any institution owned or controlled or aided by the State Government including schools and college teachers, local self government institutions, statutory bodies, universities, corporations, aided educational institutions and other such organisations.

Though the Government could defer salaries, they need to pay the deferred amount within six months from the date of deferment.

The passed ordinance would be introduced in the next session of the State Legislative Assembly and the Council for necessary approvals from the MLAs and MLCs.

An official notification regarding the same was issued by the State Government on the 16th of June.

Meanwhile, Telangana reported a total of 5,406 cases of the Novel Coronavirus with 2,188 active cases, 3,027 recovered/discharged cases and 191 deceased.
