The K. Chandrashekar Rao Government is working hard to gain the attention of Dalits In the State of Telangana.

Recently, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government launched several welfare schemes benefitting Dalits. The major reason behind the activities could be the upcoming Huzurabad by elections.

After the exit of Eatala Rajender, the former Health Minister of Telangana and TRS member, the Party is putting effort to win the by elections. It is to be noted, Huzurabad is a Dalit dominated Assembly constituency. Of the total 2.26 lakh voters, 40,000 voters are from Dalit community in the Huzurabad assembly constituency.

Meanwhile, countering the criticism of the opposition over the new Dalit Welfare Scheme, KCR said, He wants to draw the attention of the country towards this programme. Diminishing the claims of the opposition, The TRS President said, they are aware that the opposition is criticising the launch and saying it is to gain Dalit voters in Huzurabad to win. However, the TRS Government is not making efforts to win the elections, but towards the growth and development of the Dalits.

In regard to this, KCR is planning to invite a group of intellectuals and policymakers from different fields from the Dalit community from across India for the launch of the scheme from Huzurabad. He also said, the Dalit scheme would be a major development and growth scheme for Dalits in the State. According to sources, KCR is said to be interacting with some noted economists and experts in the Dalit empowerment to take up the scheme on a largescale.

A senior official of the TRS, close to the development said, “The State Government would also provide required assistance to the beneficiaries to launch ‘Start Up’ companies on their choice under the Dalit Bandhu scheme at local level, if necessary.” The State Government is also ready to spend 80,000 to 1,00,000 crores for the same.

Clarifying the Dalit Bandhu scheme, which would be a pilot project launched from Huzurabad, the Telangana CM said, “The Governments in the past came out with some schemes and asked for the bank guarantees. How can Dalits who toiled with their hands get the bank guarantees? Hence the financial assistance given by the government through Dalit Bandhu is free. This is not a loan. No need to repay it. There is no chance of any middlemen in this. Eligible beneficiaries will get the assistance in their bank accounts.”

Under the Dalit Bandhu Scheme (Dalit Empowerment Program) the KCR Government would provide financial assistance to Dalit families. In regard to this, the Telangana Government planned to release Rs. 1,000 crores. The Chandrashekar Rao Government would provide Rs. 10 lakh financial assistance directly to the bank accounts of Dalit beneficiaries under the Chief Minister Dalit Empowerment Programme. The eligible families selected as beneficiaries from 119 Assembly constituencies would receive the money to make them financially self sufficient. In total, approximately 11,900 Dalit families would receive Rs. 10 lakhs each.

According to the Telangana Chief Minister’s office (CMO) the financial assistance would be released in a phased manner. In the first phase, the assistance would be given to 100 families selected from each of the 119 Assembly Constituencies.

The pilot project would be kickstarted from the Huzurabad area of Karimnagar district. The Telangana Chief Minister said, the launch of the Dalit Empowerment scheme is done after studying every Dalit empowerment scheme introduced by other states and its impact on the development of the particular community.

The Huzurabad by elections is due to be held soon. The official dates of the elections are scheduled to be released by the Election Commission of India (ECI.)
