The Telangana High Court (HC,) on the 22nd of October, permitted the Telangana Government to conduct Municipal elections in Telangana.
The Telangana Court said the State Government can go ahead with the legal procedure for the Municipal elections in the State. Earlier, the HC told the Government not to issue the election notification until the petitions filed regarding the Municipal elections in the HC are cleared.
On the 22nd of October, the HC reviewed all the petitions and dismissed them. The Court also said the Telangana HC would not interfere in the election process and the State Government can conduct the elections freely.
There are 13 corporations and 128 municipalities in the State which would conduct the civic body polls.
However, 10 corporations’ elections would be conducted after the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections in Khammam and Warangal are completed.
In some municipalities of Siddipet and Yamnampet, due to unknown reasons, the elections stand cancelled.
The official announcement regarding the dates of the Municipal elections is yet to be made.
