Telangana HC Puts Hold On Demolition Of Old Secretariat Till July 15

On the 13th of July, the Telangana High Court put a temporary stay on the demolition of the old Telangana Secretariat. 

The last hearing regarding the matter was conducted on the 10th of July.

In today’s hearing the Telangana High Court extended the temporary stay on demolition of buildings till the 15th of July.

The decision was taken by a division bench of comprising Chief Justice (CJ) Raghvendra Singh Chauhan and Justice B. Vijaysen Reddy.

On the 10th of July, the HC, reviewed a lunch motion petition regarding the demolition work.

Professor P.L. Vishweshwara Rao, filed the petition alleging the State Government of violating the Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 guidelines during the demolition process.

The petitioner in his filing also complained of air pollution due to the solid wastes produced by the demolition process.

In today’s hearing, the Telangana High Court asked the State Government to submit a detailed report of the demolition process by the 13th of July.

After reviewing the submitted report, on the 13th of July, the court extended the halt on demolition.

The Court also directed the State Government to submit the decision of the Cabinet in a sealed cover.

The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government is demolishing the old Secretariat complex to build a new Secretariat.

On the 7th of July, the Telangana Government began demolition of the old Secretariat building complex in Telangana.

After the Telangana HC approved the demolition, the K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) released the elevation design, following which the demolition began.

In 2019, KCR, the Chief Minister of Telangana, laid the foundation for the new Secretariat.

However, due to the PIL filed against the State Government regarding the demolition of the old Secretariat, the demolition process was delayed.

Later on the 6th of July, 2020, the Telangana HC dismissed all the PILs filed against the demolition and approved the demolition process.

The new Secretariat is designed on wide land of about 4 lakh square feet. The total budget for the construction is expected to be of Rs. 400 crores including the State art and vaastu compliant design.

According to the advocate general representing the State Government, 60% of the demolition process has been completed in just 4 days.

The next hearing Regarding the Telangana Secretariat demolition is scheduled on the 15th of July.
