The Telangana State Government has planned to approach the Central government for the 2 Bed Room House Scheme due to the non availability of land. For the construction of the 2 BHK flats promised by the State Government, non availability has become an issue. To solve this the state is looking towards the Central Government and various department lands in the State.

Around 400 acres of land is required for the construction of one lakh two bedroom homes in the Greater Hyderabad limits by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC.) GHMC has already started working on 10,000 homes and postponed the rest because of the scarcity of land. Very soon it is expected that they will finish tenders for another 10,000 homes.

According to higher official sources, the State Government is looking for 800 acres of land that belongs to the Indian Drug Pharmaceutical Limited (IDPL) in the Balanagar area of Hyderabad. The Centre has proposed the sale of this land to revive the required units of land. Also, institutions like Survey of India and HCL have huge tracts of land which the government is planning to use for the project.

The Government has also intimated the railway quarters near the Secunderabad Railway Station to being taken over for the housing scheme and allot them land in a different place. GHMC Chief K. Suresh Kumar speaking to the media said, “Municipal administration minister K.T. Rama Rao has directed the Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy district collectors to identify land and submit a report.”

The housing program is looked over by Rama Rao who reviewed it on Tuesday along with S.P. Singh the Chief Secretary. He ordered the authorities to begin the construction of the 2 BHK houses before the end of March this year. Rama Rao also added that once the land is identified, he will meet Union Ministers of concerned departments and request them to hand over the land for the housing scheme.
