Telangana’s Nagarjuna Saga r By Poll Underway, 2.20 Lakhs Voters Are Eligible To Cast Vote

On the 17th of April, Telangana is conducting by election for Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly seat. 

The voting began at 7:00 A.M., and would continue till 7:00 P.M.  In the early hours of the 17th of April, voters queued up to exercise their franchise.  While the majority of polling stations started voting at 7:00 A.M., polling started late in three polling stations of Nagarjuna Sagar constituency due to Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) problems. There are as many as 346 polling stations in the Assembly constituency. 

Meanwhile, the State Election Commission (SEC) made all the arrangements of polling in the lines of Novel Coronavirus or COVID-19 protocols.  As many as 4,000 police personnel including central forces have been deployed for the by poll in Nagarjuna Sagar elections.

Close to 2,20,300 voters are eligible to vote and decide the fate of 41 candidates in fray.   In the first hour, close to 6.30 % voter turnout was recorded in the constituency. 

The Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) seat of the Nagarjunasagar constituency fell vacant after the demise of its MLA.  On the 1st of December, 2020, Nomula Narsimhaiah, the Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Nagarjunasagar, Nalgonda district passed away.  He died during the early hours of the day while undergoing treatment for prolonged illness.  Since then, the constituency has been without a MLA. 

All the three major parties, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS,) the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) are in fray to bag the seat.  While Nomula Bhagat is contesting the Nagarjuna Sagar by polls representing the TRS, Ravi Kumar is contesting from the BJP and Jana Reddy from the INC. 

The result of the Nagarjuna Sagar by polls would be announced on the 2nd of May.
