The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government announced a holiday in the rain affected Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.

Due to the heavy rainfall since the 3rd of September, Mr. Arvind Kumar, the Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Urban Development announced a holiday for private institutions, schools, offices and non essential services for the 8th and the 9th of September.

Information Technology (IT) companies and other private firms have been advised to allow work from home for their employees, until the rain like situation comes under control. Due to the constant rain from the past 4-5 days, low lying regions of Telangana and many areas of the GHMC and Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits are suffering issues like power cuts, waterlogged areas, potholes, uprooting of trees and other rain related problems. Considering the same and worrying about the safety of the people, the GHMC officials and Mr. Arvind Kumar declared a two days holiday.

The decision regarding the same was taken by Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the MA&UD Minister of Telangana and the Animal Husbandry Minister Mr. T. Srinivas Yadav, during an emergency meeting. The meeting with the district officials and other concerned officials was held on the evening of the 7th of September. During the meeting, Mr. K.T. Rama Rao asked the concerned people to take stock of the situation and ensure the necessary measures to handle the same.

In addition, the Director General of Police (DGP) of Telangana Mr. M. Mahender Reddy also urged people to stay indoors. He said, “It’s time again to restrain yourselves from coming out. People are requested to reach your police on #Dial100 & DRF teams on 040-29555500 for assistance.”

Mr. Anjani Kumar, the Commissioner of Police (CP) of Hyderabad also advised people to stay indoors and tweeted, “Traffic Advisory is for your safety and security. Pl follow them. Our officers have been working since last night to see that minimum inconvenience is caused to you. I just saw many onlookers coming on roads near Jahanuma. Please avoid coming on roads till water recede.”

Besides the Telangana Police Department and State Ministers, Ms. Tamilisai Soundararajan, the Governor of Telangana, also expressed concern about the heavy rain and said, “Apart from Govt every one of us should take part to help & share people suffering whatever way possible Interacting with Telangana Redcross volunteers today 2 appreciate their work & motivate them further.”

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) and Hyderabad Weather Department, the GHMC limits and other low lying regions of the Telugu State are expected to witness heavy rainfall for more 3-4 days.
