TRS Government Launches Free Rice Distribution During Nationwide Lockdown

On the 1st of April, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government, launched a free rice distribution programme in the State, amid a 21 day nationwide lockdown.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, announced the launch of the scheme to help and provide free rice to the citizens of Telangana, especially ones who are Below Poverty Line (BPL.)

Mareddy Srinivas Reddy, the Chairman of the Civil Supply Corporation, launched the scheme at a ration shop in Khairatabad, for the people residing with the white ration card.

The representatives of the TRS Party and government officials distributed the free rice to the people.

According to the Government officials, there was 5.80 lakh white ration card holders were  benefited with the free rice.

The scheme would also help the migrant workers residing in the State with an addition of Rs. 500 to each worker during the lockdown period.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a 21 day nationwide lockdown as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 in India.

Meanwhile, the Telangana Government also asked the citizens of Telangana to follow the guidelines of the lockdown, as the number of COVID-19 cases in the State increased to 77.
