The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government would vote against the newly passed farmers’ bill in the Rajya Sabha.

Recently, the Central Government passed three farmers’ bills related to the agriculture sector growth.

However, many opposition parties including the TRS are against the bill, alleging the new bills would take away legislative rights of farmers in India.

According to sources, the TRS Members of Parliament (MPs) would vote against the new agriculture bill.

K. Chandrasekhar Rao,the Chief Minister of Telangana, directed the MPs to vote against and said the bill would cause harm to the farmers and benefit the corporates to expand their businesses.

Mr. Rao said though the bill would allow the farmers to sell their produce anywhere, farmers need to go far places to sell their produce bearing all the transport expenses.

KCR further said that the centre decided to decrease the import tax to 15 % from 50 % on import of one crore tonnes of maize from other countries.

The Chief Minister also said, how the centre took the decision when the country is facing an economic slowdown.

Mr. Rao also questioned the Centre as to what is the use of decreasing the import tax and increasing maize imports from abroad when plenty of maize are being produced in India.

The agriculture bill seemed to cause heavy losses to the farming sector and no benefits for the farmers.

Chandrashekar Rao also instructed the MPs to strongly oppose the bill in the Rajya Sabha and vote against it.

The three bills which were passed in the Lok Sabha are: the Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Bill.

However, the bills would not be an act until the Rajya Sabha approves .

Stay tuned for further updates.
