The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) leaders, on the 31st of October, conducted a 24 hour ‘Deeksha’ against the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government.

The decision to go on the 24 hour strike came after the TSRTC leaders and Joint Action Committee (JAC) leaders organised a public meeting, Sakala Janula Samara Bheri.

On the 30th of October, the TSRTC and JAC leaders began the Sakala Janula Samara Bheri at 3:00 P.M.  It continued till 5:00 P.M., as per the orders of the Telangana HC.

The 24 hour Deeksha was started at 10:00 A.M., at all the bus depots in Telangana.  The strike was called in support of K. Sambasiva Rao, a leader of the Communist Party of India (CPI.)  K. Sambasiva Rao is on an indefinite fast and was admitted to the Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) Hospital in Hyderabad, Telangana.

Sambasiva Rao is on the hunger strike since the 26th of October and entered its 6th day on the 31st of October.  He decided to go on strike in support of the TSRTC employees and urged the TRS Government to approve the employees’ demands.

The doctors at NIMS advised him to break his fast.  Before going on strike, the JAC leaders visited NIMS and urged Sambasiva Rao to end his strike and offered him fruit juice.

Ashwathama Reddy, the President of the JAC, said, “The fight will continue till the TSRTC issues are resolved and no threats and hurdles created by the Government will stop us.”

The TSRTC staff also plan to conduct a ‘Million March,’ if needed.

Kodandaram, the President of the Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS,) said the strike would continue until the demands were met.

The TJS would also extend its support to the TSRTC employees if they conduct the Million March or massive protests against the TRS Government.

The 24 hour Deeksha would continue till the 1st of November.

Stay tuned for further updates.
