Pulwama Terror Attack – State Governments Announce Ex Gratia

The State Governments of India, on the 15th of February, announced an ex gratia for the families of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans who lost their lives in the Pulwama terror attack.

Forty CRPF jawans, on the 14th of February, died in a bomb blast in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. This attack was deadlier than the attack in Uri in 2016, which killed approximately 16 jawans.

The Maharashtra Government announced an amount of Rs. 50 lakhs as an ex gratia for the families of the deceased CRPF jawans who belonged to Maharashtra. Sanjay Rajput and Rathod Nitin Shivaji were the 2 jawans from Maharashtra who were killed in the attack.

Devendra Fadnavis, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, on the 15th of February, took to Twitter and announced the ex gratia.

Mr. Fadnavis also said, the State Government will provide “complete support to the education of the slain soldiers’ children.”

Apart from the Maharashtra Government, the Odisha Government, the Punjab Government and the Uttar Pradesh Government also announced compensation.

Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, took to Twitter and announced an ex gratia of Rs. 10 lakhs for the families of Manoja Kumar Behera and P.K. Sahoo, who were from Odisha, and were killed in the Pulwama attack.

Amarinder Singh, the Chief Minister of Punjab, announced government jobs for the next of kin of the deceased jawans from Punjab, Jaimal Singh, Sukhjinder Singh, Kulwinder Singh and Maninder Singh Attri.

Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, also announced Rs. 25 lakhs as a compensation to the families of the jawans from Uttar Pradesh.

The IPS Association of Uttar Pradesh contributed their one day’s worth salary to the family members of the deceased.

Mahesh Kumar, Pradeep Kumar, Ramesh Yadav, Koushal Kumar Rawat, Pradeep Singh, Ram Vakeel, Vijay Kr. Mourya, Amit Kumar, Kankaj Kumar Tripathi, Awadhesh Kumar Yadav, Ajit Kumar Azad and Shyam Babu were the 12 CRPF jawans from Uttar Pradesh.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA,) headed by G. Mukesh Singh, will investigate the terror attack, which is claimed to have been carried out by the Jaish e Mohammad (JeM,) a terrorist group in Pakistan.
